Question and Answer

CC: How long have you been in business?

Nicole: I have been in business for only about 5 months! This is something that I have wanted to do for the longest time and I had been creating special occasion cards for friends and family members for years. I figured - why not create them in larger quantities and see where it goes?

CC: Is there a special place that inspires you?

Nicole: I am inspired by Paris and Venice - We've been to Europe Italy a few times and I absolutely love the modernism and clean lines that are mixed with vintage and antique elements.

CC: Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

Nicole: I've learnt that making a 'living' is not the same thing as 'making a life' - Maya Angelou

CC: What inspired you to start your business?

Nicole: I became a mom 16 months ago and I felt the need to start doing something selfish for myself on my downtime! I always knew I'd wanted to start my own company one day and I had the name "A La Carte" picked forever. The stars just seemed to align and one day I decided to take the plunge. I hired a creative designer to help me with my logo and business cards and the rest is history. I created a Website and Facebook Fan Page and started creating my handmade, hand cut cards!

I love working with different papers and textures. I try and source out unique handmade papers and papers with recycled content and I am the one who dreams up and creates every design you see on my website! I love sending out thank you cards and birthday cards and I think that with all the technology we have these days that it's an art that's being lost and forgotten - who doesn't LOVE getting something other than bills in the mail!?!?

CC: What's coming up next for you and your business?

Nicole: I'm working on some new designs and card sizes for 2011 as well as some new gift tag designs! I've also starting to book up with some great new Trade Shows and Craft Shows in the Edmonton, Alberta area. I have found that lots of people love to touch and feel the cards so doing live shows rather than just internet sales has been very successful! I cant wait to see what 2011 has in store for me and A La Carte Designs!!
